He studied cello until at age 20 he discovered the guitar and devoted his life to the study and advancement of the instrument. His father was a distinguished government official, and Ferdinando was well educated, including, of course, an education in music. He was born Ferdinando Maria Meinrado Francesco Pascale Rosario Carulli in 1770 in Naples, which was then not yet part of Italy but instead the capital city of the Kingdom of Naples. And now Rosco takes it away!įerdinando Carulli marks the start of what is now referred to as the Golden Age of the classical guitar repertoire. Carulli is a keystone composer in the classical guitar world and if you don't know at least one of these songs, you'll be a much better for learning it. Curated by Rosco7 this time (thanks Rosco!), hopefully this will bring some of our newer guitarists out of the woodwork.
